A not so ground breaking discovery of voice.

Lately, I have made an effort to fill my mornings with education rather than using up all my dopamine for the day on social media before I get out of bed. Lately, I have been watching Masterclass as an effort to ditch social media, which might be just as much candy for my brain as the other. Regardless of its delicious content and satisfying transitions, I think I might have some take aways from this weeks distractions.

On writing and voice. From Michael Lewis or David Sedaris, my latest lessons, I have taken some inspiration for the voice portion of the Personal Branding Program.

One of the best ways to find your writing voice is to, well, write. Practicing is a must. Michael Lewis suggested pretending as if you are writing, whatever you might be writing, to the person in the world that would judge you least. Write candidly and let the words flow as if you were telling a story. Sedaris on the other hand, spoke much about starting everyday with a diary. Writing as if you were telling yourself a story. You can easily see his voice jumping off the page as he reads his diary entries.

So that there is my big thoughts and advice for the day, and what I am currently doing with this blog. I am practicing using my voice a little bit every day.

So your homework is this. Sit down before you start work and write a little diary about whatever you have found interesting over the past few days, and I will do the same.

Till next time.
